Frequently Asked Questions

How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

We set goals based on facts. What the client has done before, what worked and what didn't. We map out a plan specific to them that leverages our experience across various training styles & modalities following an athletic performance season.

This means every plan has 4 seasons.

  • A PRE SEASON where the emphasis is on starting in season protocols, prioritizing the necessary lifestyle changes to cope with in season and the minimisation of added stress.
  • An IN SEASON where the primary objective is their goal pursuit, enabling adequate protein intake & recovery, and how to handle debt management on the body's energy systems.
  • A POST SEASON where emphasis is on recovery, reduction of training stressors and the pursuit of our body's natural set point (homeostasis).
  • And finally an OFF SEASON where the secondary goal is improvement (skill development), strength build and how to properly integrate everything they've learned into their lifestyle.

What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?

Understanding what is really takes in terms of training, nutrition and lifestyle. Rampaging through some 28-day challenge where all you do is restrict your food intake, training like a lemming will get you weight loss ... but the majority of that is not fat loss, it's in fact water and muscle (e.g. think of someone who's done a rapid weight loss and the saggy, baggy outcome on their limbs where they've lost muscle or in their face where they look gaunt).

It's not sustainable. So, our goal with our clients is about the LONG GAME. 1lb/0.5kg reduction, slowly and consistently whilst maintaining a healthy / restored metabolism so that the muscle building that shapes the new body continues AND managing this within the lifestyle they want.

What do you love most about your job?

To show clients that finally, the END GAME isn't about hacks or gimmicks but in demonstrating how mastering the basics (training versus exercise, eating for YOUR body, and how this forms part of everyday life easily) go some much further when they've a plan they stick to (no more hopping from one to another), some accountability (to themselves and from a coaching partner) and stop falling prey to marketing hype.

Once this penny drops, excuses fade away and their lifestyle changes for the better, they get long term sustainable results that ebb and flow with where they are.

What inspired you to start your own business?

My own story & situation led me to here. A former management consultant burning the candle at both ends for far too long and neglecting my health & fitness. With 2 young children all I was doing was chasing $ for them, or so I thought. I lost sight of the bigger picture and mother nature has a different plan.

My health declined, I put on weight (ballooning up to 115kg, which isn't significantly heavy, but at 5'7", a toll on the body and brain). I had early onset sleep apnea, snored life a freight train, on meds for constant reflux, gut and digestive issues from eating poorly, pains in my lower back, neck, shoulders from lack of activity, facial rosacea (sever blotchy redness and swelling), blood pressure issues and this manifested into issue with temper and the likes.

My wake up call at 42, 2 transient ischemic attacks (mini strokes) in the space of a few months. If I was in this way much longer my kids wouldn't have a Dad for much longer. I did all the hacks and gimmicks I mentioned above to try fix myself. At some point, I had a 'come to Jesus' moment where I worked out that I needed something for me, my own plan, not someone else's and I had to look longer term with what was going on in the lifestyle, workload etc.

From here, ups and downs, left and right and I finally found a way, a plan, a method that worked. I educated myself more, did my Personal Trainer certifications to find out more and ever since, haven't stopped. I helped a few friends that in turn led me to going deeper into personal training and then my own venture in time. And we're here today.

Why should clients choose you?

Hands on, first hand experience. I may not be everyone's cup of tea (so the saying goes). I tell it straight, like it is, and don't sugar coat anything (pun intended). I know what it's like to be overweight. To have to side effects impact my life and as a parent, saw 1st hand how that effected my family, relationships at work and so forth.

I don't boast about 'I did this for that person' because in my view, the client is the one actually doing the work. I'm the support crew who happens to have the knowledge, where how and experience to help. I do invest myself into the outcome because at the end of the day, a client is paying me for time, 'x number of session' ... none of that.

If they've the right mindset ... it's about an end game, a goal, the results. Period!

Can you provide your services online or remotely?

I do both face to face from a private home gym in Willoughby, New South Wales AND a remote program. The programs are founded on the same system I've used for many years now. The only real difference is what equipment they remote client has access to.

Is it a full gym, or at home with minimal equipment. My role then changes by structuring the program around what's available and if necessary, resetting client expectations about goal and their pursuit (e.g. if they want a rocking bikini body or V Taper for summer with shape, size, muscle depth, then at home, unless they've good equipment, might be more of a challenge that being in a gym setting with all the tools at their disposal).

Remote simply means the client, in my view, takes on a more accountability role with training. I'll still engage, have the necessary number of check ins throughout the plan, provide feedback, adjust plans etc. just like face to face ... none of that changes.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Throughout the period, like any personal training or gym based business, we've made sure our clients are always safe. From semi-private (4:1) to private (1:1) for face to face, from in studio to outdoors for social distancing, we've followed every guideline.

From providing hand sanitizing, to bigger fans for air circulation and wiping down used equipment after each session, these have always been what we've done to provide clients a safe space.
